Head coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday that Smith will likely start and play the full game Sunday against the Rams, as the Seahawks aren't planning to give No. 2 quarterback Sam Howell any reps, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Seattle has been eliminated from playoff contention, but Smith doesn't look like he'll be rested, even though he's not far removed from suffering a knee injury in the Seahawks' Week 15 loss to the Packers. Smith has started all 16 of the Seahawks' contests on the campaign, while Howell has played just 25 offensive snaps, all but one of which came when he stepped in for an injured Smith in Week 15. Smith ranks fifth in the NFL with 4,097 passing yards on the season, though his 17:15 TD:INT leaves much to be desired.
Smith completed 17 of 23 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed three times for 19 yards in the Seahawks' 6-3 win over the Bears on Thursday night. He also committed two fumbles, recovering one.
Analysis
As the final score indicates, the game wasn't exactly an offensive showcase, and Smith's yardage total, his second lowest of the season, further corroborates the futility. However, the veteran signal-caller was accurate and connected with six different targets overall, albeit with just one completion of over 20 yards. Smith did go without a touchdown for the second time in the last three games, but he helped keep the Seahawks firmly in contention for both an NFC West title and a wild-card spot ahead of a Week 18 road showdown with the division-leading Rams.
Smith completed 31 of 43 pass attempts for 314 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while taking his only carry for eight yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis
Smith was cleared from the knee injury that forced him out of last week's contest against Green Bay prior to Sunday's kickoff, and the end result was a strong performance from a fantasy perspective. It was the veteran QB's second game of the season with three touchdown passes thrown and the fifth time he has eclipsed the 300-yard mark through 15 starts. Smith's passing volume (3,937 yards) has helped offset a mediocre 17:15 TD:INT on the campaign. With the minor knee injury in the rearview mirror, Smith makes for a fine play in Week 17 against the lowly Bears on Thursday Night Football.
Smith (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Minnesota, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis
Smith was unable to finish Sunday's loss to the Packers but has been a full practice participant throughout the week. While it's possible his mobility is affected, he'll make another start Sunday versus the Vikings.
Smith (knee) said Thursday that he expects to play in the Seahawks' Week 16 matchup with the Vikings, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. "I'm getting better every day, and I'm looking forward to Sunday," Smith added.
Analysis
Smith was forced out of this past Sunday's loss in the third quarter after he took a low hit from a Packers defender and didn't return. He received positive results from testing in the days following the contest, and he's now logged back-to-back full practices to begin Week 16 prep, per Boyle. All signs point to Smith being under center for Seattle after Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
Smith (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Smith injured his right knee in the second half of this past Sunday's loss to the Packers and wasn't able to return. He was able to work out Monday, then received encouraging results after undergoing tests on his knee. With no limitations to begin Week 16 prep, Smith thus is set to remain the Seahawks' starting quarterback Sunday against the Vikings.
Coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that tests performed on Smith's right knee were positive, and the Seahawks hope to "see him practice throughout the week," Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Smith took a low hit from a Packers defender in the middle of the third quarter of Sunday's loss and limped to the sideline and eventually the locker room. He returned to the bench not long after, but he didn't retake the field, yielding QB duties to Sam Howell for the remainder of the contest. It seems that Smith has dodged a bullet, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to do enough to gain clearance for this coming Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Type: Knee
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said after Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Packers that Smith will undergo additional testing on his right knee injury Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Smith completed 15 of 19 pass attempts for 149 yards and an interception while adding five yards on one carry before exiting the game.
Analysis
Smith didn't return after suffering the injury in the third quarter, as Sam Howell played out the remainder of the game. Macdonald added that Smith's knee looks fine structurally, but the results of additional tests will determine whether Smith will need to miss additional time. Seattle's next game falls on Sunday in Week 16 against the Vikings.
