Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed Wednesday that Stafford won't play in Sunday's game against Seattle, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis
Jimmy Garoppolo will make the start, with Stafford and other key players resting in preparation for a wild-card-round matchup with the Packers, Buccaneers or Falcons.
Stafford isn't expected to play Sunday against the Seahawks after head coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday that he plans on resting most of the Rams' key starters for the regular-season finale, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. "Typically, we've erred on the side of leaning a little bit more towards [resting players] and I would imagine as we continue to finalize our plans, that's probably the direction we'll go," McVay said, when pressed about the Rams' plans for Week 18.
Analysis
While they can claim the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win over the Seahawks, the Rams are already assured no worse than the fourth seed -- and the home game in the wild-card round that comes with it -- after having already clinched the NFC West title. McVay suggested that he'll prioritize resting the team's top players and avoiding injuries for Week 18 rather than going all in on securing the No. 3 seed, an approach similar to the ones the Rams took in 2017 and 2023, when the team had little at stake in regular-season finales. While McVay didn't specifically mention that Stafford would sit out, the coach said that he was excited to see what backup Jimmy Garoppolo could do in his first extended snaps as a member of the Rams. The Rams also have a third quarterback in Stetson Bennett on the roster, so Stafford will most likely be a healthy inactive for the matchup with the Seahawks rather than suiting up as Garoppolo's top backup.
Stafford completed 17 of 32 passes for 189 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 13-9 win over the Cardinals. He added six rushes for 16 yards.
Analysis
Stafford did enough to win and avoided both turnovers and sacks, but he still struggled to get the Rams' offense going. The primary exception came on a drive midway through the second quarter, when he connected on a deep pass to Cooper Kupp for 29 yards and also found Puka Nacua for a gain of 19 to set up a one-yard touchdown run for Kyren Williams. Otherwise, the only thing working for Stafford was targeting Nacua, who was on the receiving end of 10 completions. Overall, Stafford has now failed to reach 200 passing yards in four of his last five games and has only one total touchdown combined across his last three contests.
Stafford completed 14 of 19 passes for 110 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Jets. He also registered three rushing attempts for minus-4 yards.
Analysis
Stafford threw for only nine yards in the first quarter and was picked off in the second, finishing the first half with a modest 46 passing yards. He was only moderately more effective in the second half, though Stafford's 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee in the fourth quarter helped the Rams pull away and improve to 9-6. After struggling in the cold Sunday, Stafford will be glad to be back in Los Angeles for Week 17 against the Cardinals.
Stafford completed 16 of 27 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed four times for 18 yards in the Rams' 12-6 win over the 49ers on Thursday night.
Analysis
Stafford didn't look anywhere near as sharp as he had just four days earlier in a track meet against Josh Allen and the Bills, but wet conditions throughout the night certainly played a role. However, the veteran persevered through less-than-ideal circumstances and continued to display a prolific connection with Puka Nacua, with whom he connected on seven occasions for 97 yards. The biggest offensive play of the night also transpired between the two, as Stafford hit the standout receiver for a 51-yard completion to open a late fourth-quarter drive that culminated in a field goal. The veteran signal-caller did see a four-game streak of multiple touchdown passes come to an end, but he has the Rams in solid shape at 8-6 heading into a Week 16 road battle against the Jets on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Stafford completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 44-42 win over the Bills.
Analysis
Despite the score and the stat line of Josh Allen, the Rams prioritized their running game. That limited Stafford's passing volume, but he made up for that by averaging 10.7 yards per attempt while completing four passes of more than 20 yards. He also found the end zone on passes of 17 and 19 yards to Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, respectively. Stafford now has multiple scores in four straight games with no interceptions, though this was his first 300-yard performance since Week 1.
Stafford (ankle) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Analysis
When head coach Sean McVay touched on Stafford's status Monday, he relayed that the quarterback was dealing with a lateral ankle sprain, but he wasn't expected to have any restrictions in practice, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. The Rams' first Week 14 injury report confirmed as much, setting Stafford up to continue to lead the Los Angeles offense. He's tossed multiple touchdowns in five of the last six games on his way to a 14:3 TD:INT during that stretch.
Stafford suffered a lateral ankle sprain in Sunday's Week 13 win over New Orleans, but neither his practice nor game status this week is expected to be affected, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Rams coach Sean McVay didn't seem concerned Monday when mentioning Stafford's ankle issue, suggesting that the star quarterback wouldn't be restricted in practice this week or in this coming Sunday's matchup against Buffalo. A lateral sprain is the most common type of ankle sprain and occurs on the outside of the ankle, and Stafford's sprain seems to be relatively minor. The injury likely occurred in the second quarter of Sunday's victory, as Stafford was seen limping a few plays prior to sneaking for four yards on a fourth-down conversion.
Injury Status
Status: QUESTIONABLE
Type: Ankle
Stafford completed 14 of 24 pass attempts for 183 yards and two touchdowns while taking four carries for three yards in Sunday's 21-14 win over the Saints.
Analysis
Stafford orchestrated a pair of fourth-quarter drives that resulted in touchdown passes to Demarcus Robinson (hand) and Puka Nacua, helping lift the Rams back to a .500 record on the season. The 36-year-old Stafford attempted his second-fewest passing attempts of the campaign, but he still helped fantasy managers with his fifth multi-score game over his last six appearances. Stafford and the Rams will prepare to host the Bills in Week 14 when the cross-conference squads meet next Sunday.
