After the experiment that was the SumerSports Pro Bowl voting, I was able to convince (coerce?) our analysts back into another round of voting for the 2024 SumerSports All-Pro Team. Thanks to Sam Bruchhaus, Lindsay Rhodes, Pavel Vabishchevich, Udit Ranasaria, Shawn Syed, and friend of Sumer Tej Seth for helping create this roster. As always, if you disagree, let them, not me, hear about it.

Quarterback

First Team: Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Second Team: Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

After initial voting, the First Team All-Pro quarterback selection was a tie between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. One could argue this was a failure of process because enrolling an even number of voters invites this type of result. This could easily be a “First Team A/First Team B” scenario. Allen gets the smallest of nods with his limiting negative plays and a 93rd percentile Passing Yards Over Expected Metric. In our meeting, Lindsay Rhodes mentioned that this was a flipped narative year for Allen and Jackson. Allen was more valuable due to his legs, though much of that came on qb sneaks, while Jackson was more valuable as a passer. Lamar Jackson led the league in our AI Passing metric and would be deserving of a First Team recognition as well..

Running Back

First Team: Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Second Team: Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens

One year after averaging under 4 yards per carry for a six-win New York Giants team, Saquon Barkley had a historic year, averaging almost six yards per carry and breaking 2,000 total rushing yards for the NFC East Champion Eagles. Derrick Henry quietly had almost 2,000 rushing yards as well. Taking it a step further, both Henry and Barkley finished with a top 11 rushing season of all time.

Wide Receivers

First Team: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions | Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings | Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

Second Team: Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams | Nico Collins, Houston Texans | AJ Brown, Philadelphia Eagles

All six of these receivers finished with outstanding AI Receiving metrics, finishing in the 93rd percentile or better. What separated them from each other was season long production. Ja’Marr Chase led the league with over 1,700 receiving yards and Justin Jefferson was right behind him with over 1,500 yards. Amon-Ra St Brown finished fifth in receiving yards and finished in the 95th percentile in our AI Receiving metric. Puka Nacua, AJ Brown, and Nico Collins finished lower in season long statistics, finishing between 990 and 1,079 receiving yards, but where they lacked in season long production, they made up for in efficiency. They finished first, second, and third in our AI Receiving metric with Puka Nacua leading the league.

Tight Ends

First Team: George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

Second Team: Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers may have had a down season, but their star tight end sure didn’t. He led the league in our AI Receiving metric for Tight-Ends. It was close between Trey McBride and Brock Bowers for the second team spot. Bowers led all tight-ends in receiving yards with 1,194. However, McBride finished higher in our AI Receiving metric, finishing in the 97th percentile.

Left Tackle

First Team: Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles

Second Team: Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jordan Mailata had a dominant season. He led the league in our AI Run Blocking for offensive tackles and finished in the 96th percentile in our AI Pass Blocking metric. Tristan Wirfs finished with the best AI Pass Blocking metric among offensive tackles.

Left Guard

First Team: Joe Thuney, Kansas City Chiefs

Second Team: Landon Dickerson, Philadelphia Eagles

Death, taxes, and Joe Thuney making an All-Pro team. He’s been on one All-Pro team or another since 2019. Thuney finished the 2024 campaign in the 94th percentile in our AI Pass Blocking metric among guards. Landon Dickerson finished in the 96th percentile in our AI Run Blocking metric.

Center

First Team: Creed Humphrey, Kansas City Chiefs

Second Team: Frank Ragnow, Detroit Lions

The battle for the title of best center in football between Creed Humphrey and Frank Ragnow continues. Humphrey finished with our highest AI Pass Blocking metric for a center. Ragnow finished with the second-best AI Run Blocking metric.

Right Guard

First Team: Quinn Meinerz, Denver Broncos

Second Team: Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

Quinn Meinerz had a breakout season in 2024. He jumped from the 88th percentile in our AI Pass Blocking metric to being the second-best guard in the metric. Trey Smith finished in the 91st percentile in both our AI Pass Blocking Get-Off and Finishing metric.

Right Tackle

First Team: Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles

Second Team: Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions

Lane Johnson continues his impressive run at right tackle, being named to an All-Pro team every year since 2021. He finished in the 95th percentile in our AI Pass Blocking metric among offensive tackles. Penei Sewell didn’t rank as well against the average as expected but was asked to do so much in that Ben Johnson offense.

Edge Defender

First Team: Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns & Trey Hendrickson, Cincinnati Bengals

Second Team: Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys & Danielle Hunter, Houston Texans

Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson finished as the top two sack artists in the NFL this season. Hendricks led with 17.5 sacks and Garrett trailed right behind with 14. They also both finished with an AI Pass Rushing metric in the 98th percentile or better. Micah Parsons and Danielle Hunter both finished with 12 sacks this season and rank in the 95th percentile or better in our AI Pass Rushing metric.

Defensive Line

First Team: Chris Jones, Kansas City Chiefs & Cam Heyward, Pittsburgh Steelers

Second Team: Leonard Williams, Seattle Seahawks & Dexter Lawrence, New York Giants

Chris Jones had a down year in terms of raw sack numbers but was still productive. He only had five this season, but he led all defensive linemen with 61 pressures according to NFL Pro. He also had our best AI Pass Rushing metric among defensive linemen. Cam Heyward didn’t look like a 35-year-old defensive lineman this season; he finished with an AI Pass Rush metric in the 98th percentile. Big Cat Williams finished with 11 sacks this season and even had an interception. Dexter Lawrence finished the season with nine sacks on the season and would have had a real chance at the first team spot if he was able to stay healthy this year.

Linebacker

First Team: Zack Baun, Philadelphia Eagles & Fred Warner, San Francisco 49ers

Second Team: Edgerrin Cooper, Green Bay Packers & Blake Cashman, Houston Texans

Zack Baun took the opportunity the Eagles gave him with a one-year contract and made the most out of it. He finished with an AI Coverage metric in the 93rd percentile. Fred Warner faced multiple injuries but was still one of the best linebackers in football. Packers’ rookie Edgerrin Cooper had an impressive first season and should anchor that defense moving forward. He finished with an AI Coverage and AI Run Defense metric in the 94th percentile or better. Blake Cashman showed his athleticism in 2024; he ranked in the 91st percentile in our AI Coverage Closing metric.

Cornerback

First Team: Pat Surtain II, Denver Broncos | Trent McDuffie, Kanas City Chiefs | Marlon Humphrey, Baltimore Ravens

Second Team: Christian Gonzalez, New England Patriots | Derek Stingley Jr., Houston Texans | Cooper DeJean, Philadelphia Eagles

Pat Surtain II was a true lockdown corner in 2024. He finished with an AI Coverage metric in the 99th percentile. Marlon Humphrey had a career year with six interceptions. Trent McDuffie moved back to corner this season after playing primarily in the slot in 2023. He was a well-rounded defender finishing in the 90th percentile in AI Coverage metric and 86th percentile in AI Run Defense metric. Derek Stingley followed up his impressive 2023 campaign with another five-interception year. Cooper DeJean locked down the slot for the Eagles with a 92nd percentile AI Coverage metric. Christian Gonzalez rebounded nicely from a rookie season ended by injury with an AI Coverage metric in the 81st percentile.

Safety

First Team: Kerby Joseph, Detroit Lions & Brian Branch, Detroit Lions

Second Team: Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore Ravens & Xavier McKinney, Green Bay Packers

Kerby Joseph led the league with nine interceptions, more than his first two years in the league combined. A year after playing primarily in the slot, Brian Branch played all over the field for the Lions and finished with the highest AI Run Defense metric of any safety in 2024. Like Joseph, Xavier McKinney had a career year in terms of interceptions. He had 8 in 2024, which was the same as the total of his previous three seasons on the New York Giants. Kyle Hamilton had a down year when it comes to interceptions, only one this year after having four in the 2023 season. But the Ravens strong safety had an AI Run Defense metric in the 95th percentile in 2024.
