Gibbs was a bright spot in the disappointing playoff exit for Detroit. Even with David Montgomery back in the mix, Gibbs led the backfield with 20 touches as opposed to only seven for Montgomery. Gibbs found the end zone twice from two and eight yards away while also adding explosive gains of 33, 23 and 15 yards to post his highest yardage total of the campaign. He'll enter 2025 in the third year of his rookie contract and should remain a driving force in the Detroit offense after posting 1,929 yards and 20 yards from scrimmage across 17 regular-season games in 2024.

Analysis

Gibbs scored all four of the touchdowns by either team in Detroit's convincing win, which capped the regular season by securing the top seed in the NFC for the Lions. The four touchdowns brought Gibbs' season total to a league-leading 20 (16 rushing, four receiving), which were accompanied by 1,929 scrimmage yards. He'll likely handle a heavy workload in the NFC divisional round following Detroit's bye in the wild-card round, even if the Lions get David Montgomery (knee) back for their playoff run.

Gibbs once again functioned as the clear lead back and handled the role with plenty of success, exceeding 100 yards on the ground and recording a rushing TD for the second time in as many games while David Montgomery (knee) is sidelined. Gibbs' 30-yard scamper up the right sideline with just under three minutes remaining closed out the scoring on the night for Detroit and served as his 16th total touchdown on the campaign. Gibbs should be in line for another critical role as the Lions face off with the Vikings on Sunday night in Week 18 to determine the NFC North winner and NFC's No. 1 seed.

Gibbs got all the touches he could handle in the first game since fellow Lions running back David Montgomery suffered a regular-season-ending knee injury, racking up 119 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and three catches in the first half alone. After being tackled at the 1-yard line on three consecutive runs, Gibbs finally got across the goal line on his fourth try to put the Lions up 10-0 in the first quarter. He wound up exceeding his previous season high of 24 touches by three en route to 154 scrimmage yards despite the Lions incorporating backups Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki more frequently while nursing a double-digit lead the entire second half. Gibbs is poised for another heavy workload in Week 17 against the 49ers, who have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Analysis

Gibbs piled up 114 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns during Sunday's loss to Buffalo, a contest in which Detroit was forced to play from behind and adopt a pass-heavy approach. Montgomery's MCL injury seems to have also factored into Gibbs' elevated role, rather than the two operating in a fairly even timeshare, as per usual. Now, with Montgomery potentially in danger of missing the remainder of the 2024 campaign, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Gibbs seems to be facing a clear path to workhorse opportunities down the stretch, making him matchup-proof. Gibbs hasn't required a hefty workload in order to produce this season, but with Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki now positioned as his top complementary options, he's the Lions' clear No. 1 RB heading into a road matchup against the Bears in Week 16.

Analysis

The Lions attempted only 15 rushes in the game, as they were forced into a pass-heavy offensive scheme while chasing points. That led to a modest day on the ground for Gibbs, though he did punch in a one-yard rushing score midway through the fourth quarter. He also shone as a pass-catcher, with all five of his receptions going for gains of at least 10 yards, highlighted by a 12-yard touchdown grab early in the final quarter. All told, it was Gibbs' second consecutive multi-touchdown performance and the eighth time he's topped 100 yards from scrimmage for the season.

Analysis

Gibbs and backfield mate David Montgomery struggled to find consistent running room, and 20 of Gibbs' rushing yards actually came on one carry. However, the second-year back tied Tim Patrick for the lead in receptions and recorded his second receiving touchdown of the season on a two-yard catch just before halftime. Gibbs now has four total touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) over the last four games heading into a Week 15 home clash against the Bills on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Analysis

Gibbs' efficient performance on the ground raised his season average to 6.0 yards per carry, but his first catch of the game resulted in a fumble on Chicago's six-yard line. He finished with 12 fewer rushing attempts than David Montgomery (shoulder) but was only one rushing yard behind Montgomery's team-leading total, and neither found the end zone after scoring 11 times apiece in Detroit's first 11 games. Gibbs and Montgomery should continue to platoon against the Packers next Thursday in Week 14.

Gibbs was afforded extra opportunities and a second score after David Montgomery (shoulder) exited the contest in the third quarter. The 22-year-old Gibbs is now up to 10 rushing touchdowns through 11 games this season, matching the entire total from his 15-game rookie campaign. If Montgomery's injury forces him to miss the Lions' next contest, Gibbs would become the primary back in a tasty matchup against the Bears on Thanksgiving Day.
